Music for Kids

The Oakville Symphony Outreach Committee develops and presents mini-concerts and activities for families. We offer three mini-concerts per year with the goal of introducing children aged 4-10 to the instruments of the Symphony. These 30-minute presentations offer families the opportunity to experience live instruments in a small setting and learn about how the instrument is made and played. Our experienced OS musicians are thrilled to share their knowledge and expertise with families.

The spring mini-concert has often taken the form of a short play, featuring four or five OS musicians. Developed by the late Ian Morrison and continued by Gillian Santangeli, these plays feature Vernon Rabbit and their friends and family members. Audiences have been entertained by these fun presentations and enjoy the opportunity to meet the musicians afterwards.

The Outreach Committee also participates in Family Day activities with the Town of Oakville. We host a drop-in session where children can do craft activities that include making simple instruments and decorating them.

In school presentations along the same format as the mini-concerts are available. Teachers may contact the Outreach Committee for more information.
