Board announces June 2021 farewell to Maestro De Clara

With immense gratitude for 23 years of inspiring leadership, the Oakville Symphony announces that Maestro Roberto De Clara’s final season with the orchestra will conclude in June 2021.

Over more than two decades, Maestro De Clara has earned the profound respect and affection of musicians and patrons alike. He has greatly expanded the repertoire of the orchestra, and attracts outstanding guest artists.

A search committee is being formed to begin the process of finding a new Music Director. Members of the committee will include musicians from the Oakville Symphony and members of the Board of Directors. It is anticipated that each short-listed candidate will conduct a concert during the 2021-22 season, and that a new Music Director will be in place for 2022-23.

Maestro De Clara and the Board have a common objective: to ensure a smooth transition from him to his successor. We are grateful to Mr De Clara for providing us with ample advance notice of his decision, to ensure that this can be satisfactorily achieved.

Founded in 1967, the Oakville Symphony performs ten concerts a year at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. It’s an impressive schedule for a community orchestra, augmented by mini-concerts for kids and multiple outreach events by small groups of Symphony musicians.
