Welcome to the 2016-2017 Season!
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 2016-17 concert season of the Oakville Symphony. Our upcoming concerts have been designed to provide you with the ultimate in a thrilling live orchestral experience.
To celebrate the beginning of our 49th concert year, the Oakville Symphony joins the worldwide commemoration of Shakespeare 400 with opening concerts dedicated to music inspired by his most famous plays. Later programs include the sublime Piano Concerto of Grieg, the dramatic Symphony no. 6 of Tchaikovsky and the delightful Sinfonia Concertante of Mozart. The season will close with a rousing, highly rhythmic salute to music from Canada, the U.S.A, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil, featuring the wonderful Rhapsody in Blue of George Gershwin. Outstanding guest artists include the distinguished Canadian cellist Paul Marleyn, brilliant young pianists Christopher Goodpasture and Lucas Porter, as well as the superb string soloists, Sharon Wei and Scott St. John.
In December the Symphony celebrates the music of the Christmas season with our traditional Family Christmas concerts, with guest appearances by the award-winning Oakville Children’s Choir.
As I embark upon my 20th season as Music Director of this remarkable group of musicians, I count myself fortunate to be able to work with such dedicated players, energetic and committed board members and you, our loyal and enthusiastic audiences. I invite you to join us for yet another year of great music-making.
