On behalf of the wonderful musicians of the Oakville Symphony, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our new 2019-20 concert season – a season of Musical Fantasy.
Our grand opening will feature two melodic and Celtic influenced orchestral works. Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy and Mendelssohn’s sublime Symphony #3 (The Scottish) are the perfect way to open our 52nd season.
February is the month of Romance and these concerts will feature works inspired by love, particularly Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. April brings the excitement and grandeur of the mighty Symphony #5 by Shostakovich, and the melting lyricism of the Glazunov Violin concerto, while Rimsky Korsakov’s fiery Capriccio Espagnole brings our season to a triumphant end in May.
As usual, we will have outstanding guest artists joining us for inspired music-making throughout the season. These exceptional musicians include: Montreal violinist Marc Djokic, winner of the prestigious Goyer prize in music, Dublin International Piano Competition first prize winner Sae Yoon Chon, along with distinguished Quebec artists Veronique Mathieu and Maxim Bernard, who are returning to collaborate with the Symphony.
The world will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth in 2020. With this in mind, we will be performing his final two piano concerti in February and in May.
Great repertoire, familiar masterpieces, exciting guest artists and your own Oakville Symphony, combine to offer you an unparalleled musical experience.
We look forward to welcoming you.
